Email validation issue

Does anyone know how or if there is a way to insure that when people enter an email address that it will check for .com, .net, etc misspellings? I have a customer now and again that will enter [email protected] or something to that effect instead of .com it still allows registration but since its not correct that prevents order info and updates from getting sent out and just giving me daemon errors from my mail server and a bit of a hassle to fix for every person.
