Making updates of PS

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I would like to ask you one thing. I see that there are coming out more and more updates for many modules in PS. Also old versions of PS are stopping to be under support and all people are slowly advised to updade their PS to higher version or at least to the last stable version.

My question is: is it really necessary to update PS base so frequently? I mean that if e.g. I uses PS 1.6.0.6. I usually do updates only for modules that I see in back office that requires update - you know - there is an automatic graphic sigh for this. So doesn´t this action is more then enough

For couple of time, when I follow this forum I see, that many people are experiencing some issues just after this updates. Modules stop working, format has disappear, issues with emails etc.. And in next newer version this is about to be resolved, but the suffer that one needs to come through till this next update is out is a bit terrifying with the fact that they need to ask here for advice how to fix this issues or they return back to their older - BUT - more stable version until this issues are fixed in upcoming next release.

I am just wondering logically what would you consider to be the best logical strategy not to face bad experience with updates that seems to be just for protection but sometimes I see that they in some cases bring more harm than good.

(just write my experience from many viewed topics here on PS forum)
