Switching the host URL. Will it mess up my shop?

Hello,

 

Soo i currently have prestashop installed in a folder on my hosting url.

I then have another url re-directing to the that folder.

 

For example..

www.Myshop.co.uk goes to www.somthingcompletlydifferent.co.uk (where my prestashop shop actually is).

 

Its been like that for about a year.. not the ideal solution because i cant share product links with out the actual hosting name being the url.. and it just doesnt look very proffessional.

 

Now is the time for me to make my shop name the actual hosting name. But my question is if i change the hosting url will this mess up my prestashop?

 

Because the files are all in www.somthingcompletlydifferent.co.uk/Prestashop changing it to www.myshop.co.uk/Prestashop would confuse it?

 

I have looked into cloning it but.. its pretty hard.?

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

if i were you i will do:

 

1) point your domain (that you want to use) to your prestashop directory

2) in shop configuration change domain to your new domain, base uri to "/"

Hi Vekia,

 

I spoke to the company we brought the hosting from (UK2.NET) and they suggested i used the 'ADDON' feature which comes in our cpanel.

 

Once i set that up i had to reset the dns and then clone my current prestashop into that folder. - Saved so much time and it seems to be working great..
