Import/Export of products (column names/headers)

When I export my products to a .csv file, modify some values (values only, no headers) and re-import, the headers the system generated for the export don't match the headers it wants for the import.  Specifically, items like Base Price and Final Price are created for the export, but upon import I find that there are no such headers and I need to adjust them to "wholesale price", "price tax included" and so on.  Also, "Status" needs to be mapped to "Active".  That's not so much of a problem (makes no sense, but at least I can work around those), but when it comes to image URLs, I map "Image URLs (x, y, z...)" to "Image", and not one of the images gets through.  I get an "Error copying image" message on every one, with absolutely no information on the nature of the error. 

 

Any ideas?  If the system generated the URL for an export file, why can't it handle exactly the same URL in an import file?
