rendering custom product list

Hello, i had to make some improvements to Presta 1.6 and im nearly done, but there is still one task to do, and i completely have no idea how to.

 

i must create custom menu(this part is already done) that after collapsing it will show container with featured items/promotions, and some <h>eaders. what is the best way to add these items to my div? 

I already tried creating custom controller, and .tpl file but it failed as it broken my styles, and scripts on loading via ajax, iframes are not an option aswell, 

 

i will be most gratefull for some hints.
