Authorize.net really $300 Euros?

Recommended Posts

Is this for real? Is this module really $300 Euros or am I missing something? If so, what's the point of this being open source software if I have to pay $400+ dollars to be able to make it accept credit cards? Might as well just buy a closed source platform.

$300 euros is ridiculous. i rather see ads all over this site than to pay $358 euros (w/ tax) for a payment module. we're talking about $521 USD. You guys are out of your mind for charging that much. At least provide a NO SUPPORT version. OsCommerce had free authorize.net modules. I don't even think Magento charges for integrating authorize.net. This is just bad. very bad.

Did you bother to search the forum?

Personally I would think 300€ is a bit expensive, 100€ is ok for a payment module.
but it's worth paying for a module that handles PAYMENTS so you are sure to get support for it if there are any problems in the future.

Yeah over $500 to accept payments for a piece of open source (i.e. "free") software is a scam. For that price I'll buy a close source shopping cart system and get support for the whole software and not just the module.

Better yet use one of a handful of other open source ecommerce CMS's that do have Authorize.net support for free.

I was so excited when I saw that Prestashop finally released an official authorize.net module. This is one of the features that was keeping me from using this as my main shopping cart platform. I develop sites mainly for small businesses and I would be forced to charge my customers more money to make up for the cost of this module. This is way too much money for a payment module and just looks like a way to get a majority of customers to pay big money for open source software.

There are plenty of open source carts available that include most of the major payment processors for free. For the price of this one module you can also start looking into paid carts. Prestashop was looking very promising, but I have now officially crossed it off my list of possible solutions.

I was about to evaluate this software for use but have now decided not to. How can you make a product 'Free' if you charge for one of the most important pieces of the shopping process? For that amount of money, I can use a hosted shopping cart (won't mention any names out of respect) with 100% support and a way better interface which INCLUDES Authorize.net. As mentioned, EVERY open source product out there includes Authorize.net at no cost because it is probably the most used gateway in America. Do the developers know this? They are virtually killing the wide spread use and adoption of their software by NOT including this gateway interface. BAD DECISION!! Good luck!

Also, by touting that your software is OPEN SOURCE and FREE, you are attracting customers who do not have the extra start up money to pay for a shopping cart. How do you think they can pay for a necessary payment module??

If you ever decide to INCLUDE authorize.net and make your product TRULY open source, then I will be back.
