Order Status Changing Automatically 1.6.0.6

The Order Status is changing automatically.  For example, when an order is received & marked as "Payment Received" it automatically changes to "Shipped".  Or if I try & change the status to "Shipped" it automatically changes to "Preparation in Progress".

I know this is an old post but i have the same sort of problem.

I have a few orders that have gone from "Shipped" to "Preparation in Progress" and even more orders that show "Preparation in Progress" and then the day after "Preparation in Progress" again.

This is very annoying as my customers are receiving either an email with an invalid Order status or receiving 2 emails saying there order is "Preparation in Progress".

Please can someone guide in where this problem is coming from or some ideas in what i could check to find the problem ?
