Manufacturer short description not displaying in manufacturer-list.tpl

Hello,
I have modified the manufacturer-list.tpl file in themes/prestashop/ so that to also include the short description

               {if $manufacturer.nb_products > 0}getmanufacturerLink($manufacturer.id_manufacturer, $manufacturer.link_rewrite)|escape:'htmlall':'UTF-8'}">{/if}
               {$manufacturer.description_short}
               {if $manufacturer.nb_products > 0}{/if}

but this does not work! where as if i change it to:

               {$manufacturer.description}

the manufacturer description is displayed.

what am i missing?

i guess this is an issue with prestashop http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/26924/modules___development/manufacturers_short_description/
and no one has managed to sort it.

would really help if someone with in depth knowledge confirm this is a bug.
