peeler
Our shop peeler - www.peelersurf.co.uk currently uses zencart. We want to transfer over to Prestashop because it looks soo much better! But, there's a slight issue. We have quite a lot of customers and will need to bring their details to prestashop. We can download there details from our database, which will make sure they're in our back office. But, they'll need to login with a password etc. how can I easily issue them with account details? is there a way of doing it?Thanks in advance. shoulders
export all your customer details from zencart using Zencart Manager to create the csv file. Zencart manager will probably not do passwords so in excel add another column and add random numbers and letters for tempory passwords.import the customers csv into prestashop using the inbuilt import toolnow send an email to all your customers saying because of the new systems security all passwords have been reset and they need to go to the forgot password link etc.... the emails can be created by mail merge or other programs, you should also use their real name in the email so they know it is not fake. NB. make sure the temporary passwords are strong (ie long and random)shouldersPS. i have just moved all my products with multiple images to presashop from zencart
rossdavidh
We did export from oscommerce (not totally dissimilar to zencart) by using mysqldump command to get all the data, then installing oscommerce on our desktop using xampp (google it), and using xampp's builtin phpmyadmin to export the data. Prestashop has a built-in feature to import customers and you can select which column is which at the time of import. Also, make certain that the email feature is working on your server first, so that when a customer from the old site needs to get their password reset email it will work.Technically you can import the (hashed) password field as well, but I don't think it will be the same hash so it's kind of irrelevant, thus people will have to get their password reset. So once again, actually create yourself a test customer account and test out the "I forgot my password" link and make 100% sure it's working. Peeler (or any ex-zencart peeps) did you successfully migrate from zencart in the end?
benjamin utterback
rka81, hello! Thank you for the message. There is a great service for shopping cart migrations that you might want to look into. It is called Cart2Cart. Many people have successfully migrated and transferred their shops to PrestaShop using this way. Search for it! Thanks for choosing PrestaShop! zod
I used Cart2Cart for a migration from Zen Cart and it worked very well, it was amazing to see how many details were migrated: all products and their categories and attributes, so in Prestashop all "combinations" were compiled already. Then we found all customers, their addresses, orders, and each order which products they bought etc... it was almost perfect. The shop had 2 languages and they were migrated both correctly in PS (you need to prepare PS previously, installing the localizations you have).I said "almost" because there are still some problems:- Shipping Zones and Carriers were not migrated, and probably i am happy with this, Zen Cart was a disaster so i could make in Prestashop all the new Zones and then Carriers, in the best way, it is a job i always do carefully anyway.- Not all images were imported, but this was a problem in the source store i think. Minor part, you can check and update easily every product.- Customers are imported without the correct password, it is not fault of Cart2Cart, with the different encryption they can't do it, so for this BIG problem you can use these instructions: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/163534-integrating-zen-cartoscommerce-passwords-with-prestashop/
