Spam attacks have been intensifying lately. I have subscriptions to multiple subforums and it is very off-putting to see tens of spam topics end up in the daily email digests I receive from the board. I'm wondering if they are real humans or bots.

Since I am a moderator at insomnia.gr (a rather big IPB-based community) where we don't have this problem, I'll ask our administrator what measures did he take against spam bots and make a recommendation to the PS team...

I run a big phpbb board and in order to sign up to deter BOTS because they are set in script you add a new function to the forum sign up process which could be a chek box or something that is not included with the original install and that is how you get rid of bots.

Also there should be a FLOOD limit because the one guy/bot i seen last night had 30+ posts in less than 10 mins.

Just some ideas.

If you mean me: I spoke with the owner of Insomnia.gr but, to his knowledge, there are no special measures in place at this time. Some time ago, he tried a built-in functionality of IPB that supposedly helps with spambots, but it caused problems (normal accounts would get auto-banned), so he deactivated it.

So, unfortunately I don't have any suggestions to make to the PS team, other than search the official IPB forum for resources that could help with the spam problem in this forum.

+1 - Nobody taking care of the spam ? In the past, I was blocking each evident spamer whe I was active here, now with no moderator rights I only can report spamers, but seems that this is ignored ? Not only new users are spaming, but also the one I'v already reported as spamer.

BTW I all this years named several options/possibilities for to indemnify/protect the forum against spam. Nothing happened. Seems that all good experiences users here are naming are ignored ? I'm not the only one giving tips on own good experiences in how to lead with spam...

No one site of mine has such high quantity of spam as here in Prestashop. It's really annoying...

Hello

I have had 204 Spam emails already this morning from 03.53 to 11.15 GMT.

I do not know if they are Bots or Humans but I would have thought, that with all the clever tech people at Prestashop, someone could find a solution.

If they are Bots, would it be possible to have this sort of visual capture  http://demo.visualcaptcha.net/

Edit: whilst typing this I have just had another two

One of the options I named several years ago, was invisible captcha. A very powerful way to have spam blocked, and I was using this method for several years. There are several projects against spam in the net, not really complicated to add to blogcoding or at least to .htaccess or ini of the server (f ex. project honey....). This also named some years ago. Nothing happened till now. Only blacklisting of words (which by the way on a multilingual forum not really usable way for to block spam). Blocking proxies, adding own picture to avatar as "have to"... there are other good methods to block spam. But not for this forum, cause it is ignored...

And yes the mail addresses you have added on your account for this forum are read from bots to use them for spam. This is 100% right. I have a special mail address which is used only here in this forum. And it was spamed some time ago. I changed the address and also I'm not reading/downloading mails incoming there. So I don't take care anymore. It's an useless address only for to have form filled in here in the forum.

Perhaps a tip for all user's getting spam by cracked mail-addresses ?  ;)

Hello all!

You are absolutely right, the forum has been overflowing with spam, way more than what's acceptable. I am terribly sorry that our action to fix this is not as quick as it should be.

I assure you that we are working on it at the moment and that we're not ignoring how annoying the spam has become on the forum. We'll beat them in the end, I promise!

Thanks for your infinite patience.
