Action hook, do I need to create a module to use it?

Hi there,

 

newbie in PS here. I wanted to create an action hook that is executed when I save a product in the store. I found this article http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS14/Understanding+and+using+hooks and it seems that for executing a hook I need to create a module? Or am I wrong?

 

I dont know if I have to create a module to execute the actionProductAdd hook or I can place that hook in some PS file that's always loaded when using the website , such as I used to do in a classified php software. Any code example specifically to this is appreciated
