Gender as confirmation buttons for newsletter block

Hello everybody, 

 

I want to replace the confirmation button in newsletter block by two buttons "Man" and "Woman". here is an example here.

 

Could anyone lead me to achieve this please? because i know that i need some serious core modification to register the gender choice in DB...

Old thread but I am doing the forum search sequentially and this is the first that I could hook to

 

So,

 

1.) is it possible to hook via custom hook the newsletter form of the standard bootstrap newsletter module or any else into a specific tpl?

I am thinking here about a page called after a successfull order.

 

2.) which are the easiest and most common techniques to ask for some more data? I saw in the above post that there are two subscription buttons that are tagged each for man/woman. We sell toys and need to know the age or best be birthday of a kid. So, we need new tables in the DB and a form to call them.
