[solved] Delete a Category?

Newbie here, just setting up.  I have created some categories that I do not need, and would like to delete them.  Clicking on "delete" has no effect.  I have made sure that no products are associated with these categories, and I have unchecked "displayed" so they do not show.  Still, I want them gone.  Any hints?

do they only shop in the front office?

 

if so, bo-->advanced parms-->performance  (top right of screen click clear cache).

El Patron: I cleared the cache as you suggested, but it didn't make any difference.  Is this a weird problem?  Are other people able to delete categories with one click?

Never mind, I have figured it out.  There is a dialog box that appears ABOVE all of the categories, near the top of the page, asking what I want to do with products in the category I am deleting.  I would have expected that box to appear below, or at least near to the place where I clicked "delete", or may be it should be an "in your face" pop up box.
