Install Error - Step 3 - SQL??

Hello,
I'm quite new to prestashop and trying to setup a website for a friend (www.westsolefencing.co.uk) but during the install of prestashop I'm getting an error:

Error while inserting data into the database:
'SET NAMES \\\'utf8\\\''
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near \'\\\'utf8\\\'\' at line 1(Error: : 1064)

I can manually import the .sql files from the /install/sql folder after editing them to change the prefix, but prestashop still wont install as it says the data already exists! the Verify now button confirms it can connect as i get a "Database is connected." message.

I'm hosting the site on my own Windows Server 2003, running
Apache 2.2.11
PHP 5.2.9-2
MySQL 5.1.32

I have successfully setup other websites, just cannot get prestashop to work.

Any help would be greatly received.

When are you receiving that error message? You said it says the database successfully connects, but does the database error occur after that step?

Try Googling "Error: : 1064"
