Display number of product next to category name in left side menu

How can i display the number of products from each category / subcategory next to the category's / subcategory's name in the left side menu?

I want it to be like this:

Category 1 (100)
   Subcategory 1 (20)
   Subcategory 2 (60)
   Subcategory 3 (10)
   Subcategory 4 (10)
Category 2 (450)

I have created an advanced version of the category block that let's you do that and more, you can check it out on my site (the address is in my signature).

I also have a module available for purchase on my website in my signature that does this and much more. Do you want to display the count of just the products in each category or did you want the products in the subcategories included in the count? My module lets you choose, though it doesn't hide zero product counts like tomerg3's module. Isn't competition great? It gives alternative options. I think I will add the option to hide zero product counts to the next version of my module, though that won't be done for a long time.
