I am experiencing some troubles like you. what i am doing is using my browser "inspect element"  to trace what i have to chage in the css.

 

 

the + and - buttons for ie are in product.css line 229!

but he wants to remove these buttons, not to hide with css

 

 

it's a product page screen in default theme?
