Total newbie - career change - I want to learn

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone i'm Michael I hope that this post is in the right location.

Some background information - I was a bakery manager for a supermarket for several years, whilst on the side I used to sell a few things on eBay. anyway I have now quit my job due to me having 3 (aged 10, 7, and 4) kids and working 60-70hrs a week and every Saturday. Basically never seeing the kids and missing out on them growing up.

I now have taken the drastic step to become self employed and try and set up a successful eCommerce store.

my attempt so far is www.99santi99.com and I have to say it's poor. Just doesn't look professional.

I could just buy a theme and change it to suit my needs but instead I want to learn how to do it myself not just how to create a theme but how to create modules as well.

So my question is how do I lean to code for Prestashop?

what I mean is what programs do I need to get ?

how do I learn CSS and HTML ect ?

Best books to get ?

Online Guides ?

What should I learn first ?

Basic Tutorials ?

I am of the belief that if you give a man a fish he will eat for a day (a theme) and if you teach a man how to fish (to create themes and modules) he will survive.

Many thanks for your advice in advance

Michael

I think here is good place to start learning: (also welcome to the forum)

Make sure to create a test shop of ps installation or copy of your production shop that you can play with.

Localhost makes good development platform.

Having a good editor like dreamweaver 5 or similar makes a big difference.

suerte(luck)

Hello and welcome

You are going into a big adventure, but with motivation I am sure that you will succeed eventually.

To better advice you, you will have to let us know your experience with coding.

Do you know what is Object-oriented programming?

What is your experience with PHP? or any other programming language(c#, Java, etc...)

Good luck for your project
