Recursive Writting Permissions and Security Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I made a new instalation of PS 1.6 in a new server and i got this error while instaling, the error said something about it could not be able to identify the proprietary?

I've changed the permissions of the folders for 777 and it worked, then i had more problems on modules and so on, so i've changes ALL the folder to 777 to be able to work

Well, this solved the problem for me to keep working, but my question is about security... am i not risking too much by having all the folders on 777?

Shouldn't they all be 755?

I am bit worried about this, can some one enlight me? In google search i found many topics about this, but nothing that was clear about security risks and what to do to prevent this.

you are correct in being concerned, both about the change to permissions and the underlying reason you needed to make these changes.

best case (most hosting): 755 folders, 644 files, 664 .htaccess

note: make sure your domain has file ownership of all folders/files

I think the error it gave me was about the domain not having ownership....

Can you please point me the direction on how to check that?
