Dh42
It looks like the file permissions are not set correctly on your server. Ask your host to set them on the tools and smarty directories. Show them the error message you are getting.

jscroggs
I'm having this same issue too. I upgraded from 1.5 and have been having numerous issues that seem to be permission related, but all of my permissions are set to 755. At first, it wouldn't let me change my logo despite my best attempts. Then, upon trying to change some of the graphics in my theme, it wouldn't allow the update. So I cleared my Smarty cache and now it won't do anything. The full error message is: Fatal error: Uncaught --> Smarty: unable to write file /sites/httpdocs/shop2/cache/smarty/compile/e3/e2/4e/wrt555de84c3db0a5_50849981 <-- thrown in /sites/httpdocs/shop2/tools/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php on line 46 Without DevMode turned on, it's simply just a white page instead of my shop. jscroggs
Double check the amount of space on your server's hard drive. Hard drive space and permissions seem to be the biggest troubles here. My problem was in customizations to some of the PrestaShop files made the upgrade not work sufficiently and had to go back and completely rebuild it from scratch instead of doing an upgrade. For the background on yours, is it an upgrade from a previous version? Have you installed any custom modules? What are the permissions on your Modules folder? Jillz
Hello I have a similar problem, my back-office (dashboard/administrator) wouldn't show anything but a blank white page. After i switched on debug mode I got the following explanation:Fatal error: Uncaught --> Smarty: Unable to load template file 'helpers/form/form.tpl' <-- thrown in E:\HostingSpaces\User\mywebsite.com\wwwroot\tools\smarty\sysplugins\smarty_internal_templatebase.php on line 129 I've tried to upload newer "fresh" versions of prestashop and to delete the database and bring it back with backups nothing worked. I changed the rights for the whole tools folder, and I have deleted al content of directories /cache/smarty/cache/ except the file index.php and cache/smarty/compile/ also except file index.php. But nothing helped this morning everything was working until I tried to switch the sub-domain to the main domain for updates. I'm currently working with Prestashop version: 1.6.1.4 Strangely enough both of the websites have the front-desk working without any problem. *Obviously i've changed the details in the error message to general info for privacy reasons. Can anyone please help me with this!!!!!! Edited January 11, 2016 by Jillz (see edit history)
Dh42
You either have a permissions issue or your site is missing that template file. Look on your ftp to verify that the file is there.
