El Patron
In order to know what impacts upgraded may have on your production shop, one should 'always' create a running copy of their production shop (test shop). Follow official PrestaShop guide for upgrade. http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/Updating+PrestaShop Test Test Test

El Patron
tip: your 1.4 theme and modules will not work, in 1.5 or 1.6. You will lose all customization of themes/modules/core. You will need to retrofit custom into 1.6, but this can be a good time to remove non-required changes making future upgrades easier. on test shop, keep default theme while you work through major new functions of 1.6. If you want the best 1.6 shop, make sure java is loading bottom (bo-->advanced parms-->load java bottom) This is a significant performance/seo feature in 1.6. google loves this! then you can go theme shopping! Make sure them is compliant with 1.6 especially that it works with java bottom. 1.6 is way cool, some new growing pains but still coolest kid on the block.
El Patron
and when you go theme shopping, only buy 'quality' theme with great reputation and support. I will say this over and over...JAVA BOTTOM! You and google will be glad you did!
Rosiyan
already chosen theme of 1.6, but if after the upgrade and install a new theme site and all products will come with all information to them .... All photos will show you? It took me a while, but I learned to tune 1.6 ... so easy and enjoyable that you do not stop ... After the update 1.6 will run you into the topic, which is the default??? Ability of 1.6 to expand and collapse each device is unique

El Patron
Version comparison PrestaShop Original version: Unable to check files for the installed version of PrestaShop. Differences between versions: Unable to generate diff file list between 1.4.11 and 1.6.0.9. That's what worries me a little ... It is listed on the 1-click Upgrade if you are using 'test' copy of production, and have backed this up so you can restore to re-try upgrade process, then there is little reason to worry. best practice is to unpack fresh 1.4.1.11 and then use 'beyond compare' to look for any custom native ps changes. this is more accurate than relying on ps. I found (no expert) that 1.4 to 1.5(latest) and then to 1.6 worked best for me. but having that test system to try different methods makes it all very easy.
