What does "Your commission is reduced" mean?

Recommended Posts

There is a new pop-up at the Addons Transactions page:

This order came from the customer BO. Your commission is reduced.

I haven't seen any reduction yet, but can someone explain that? And the other badges (0%) as well?

Hi, it's a bug. We are fixing it now. That message shouldn't pop up. If a merchant purchases an Addon from the Back Office- Your commission is reduced. That is noted in the new terms and conditions, which we will implement on August 11th

Hi,

We should at least have an option to accept or refuse our contributions being sold via the back-office...

You do, if you read the terms it says you can opt out of this by a written request

The Contributor can ask for the withdrawal of his/her Module from the Back-office by sending a written notice clearly identifying the Addons subject to the request. Withdrawal will be in effect within fifteen (15) days.

Hi, starting on August 11th, any community module bought from the backoffice will have a reduced commission of 50%. If you don't like it, you can opt out.

if you want your modules removed from the back-office search/sale, please email me with your seller account email and/or any specific modules you want removed (otherwise all modules will be removed from the back-office)

Email: bau[at]prestashop.com
Subject: OPT-OUT

Make sure to add your Seller account Email.

Thank you!

To take 50% is so "abnormal behavior", that I would like to see a certain kind of OPT-IN.

Thanks for your feedback. I want to make sure everybody can see this message on how to Opt Out. So I'll post it again.

Thank you as well. I am just curious why this option cannot be implemented as 1 of 30 fields on the product submission page.

You know, it is about money and you will only solve this through emails, without a valid confirmation, long-term records, or even sub-contracts. The classic approach of small letters on the 10th sheet? OK!

Please don't answer, I think I know ....

as is being discuss in a different thread, the 50% commission only applies in a new advertisement area in the back office.  If the customer searches on the modules page, and then purchases the module, the commission would remain at 30%.

So the extra 20% commission is based upon a new feature where your module would gain a larger audience.  I'm not sure 50% is fair, but I do understand why the commission could be higher.

But at the same time, more sales of my module equates to more revenue for Prestashop, even at 30%.  I'm not sure Prestashop deserves another 20% commission just for advertising our modules?

That is correct. However, we need to clarify what the Opt-Out does exactly. Does it remove the possibility of someone searching for your module in the back office? Or does it just remove the right we have to advertise your module for 50% commission. This is a question that we will have the answer to, tomorrow.

The 50% commission only applies when we advertise the module.

Hi Ben

In my dashboard, I have two weird sales.

1. One has a badge of "5% discount", but I don't remember that I accepted/offered a discount to apply to that product and my commission has been decreased on that transaction. The transaction ID is #230050

2. I have another sale which my commission is also reduced to 67% instead of 70%. In this case, there is no discount badge. The transaction ID is #230814

Can you clarify those transactions please? I don't understand.

In addition to those, I sent a support request on August 6, 2014 via the Addons Form but unfortunately, as always there is no answer. So I am writing through the forum. Can you please check it and let me know?

Thanks.

My dear friend. I had exactly the same issue with you, and after a few days of wait (support sucks) I got this simple and straight answer for the smaller fee.

This is part of our new tems and conditions. The minimum fees are 10€ now for an order.

and as about the 5% discount the answer was even better.

You accepted the terms the 2014-07-10 14:51:24. You can find the english version here: http://addons.prestashop.com/en/content/26-contributors-terms

In which terms and conditions (that they were in French and I had no other option than accept them), it defines that:

It is also to be noted that if there is a commercial discount or promotion on the Catalogue Price initiated by PrestaShop, the Commission will be calculated on the basis of the Sales Price. The commercial discounts and promotional actions made by PrestaShop cannot generate a discount on the Catalogue Price of more than 10%.

JUST PERFECT !!

This is a great strategy. All this time that you couldn't afford the developers, it was nice to outsource it to freelancers like us. Now, that prestashop gets the necessary attraction, you can do whatever you want. That's a real fair play. Keep up the good work

Hi!

I'll try and explain the simplest way possible, please don't mind the very formal style ;)

Rule 1: Contributors' commission is indeed calculated on the final price, after discount. The marketing and sales department at PrestaShop Addons handle discount planning, promotional sales and commercial gestures for your modules to sell more.

Example, an 8% discount on a €100.00 module: the 70/30 commission is calculated on the final price: €92.00 (initial price minus 8%).

Rule 2: PrestaShop Addons takes on any discount higher than 10%.

Example, a 15% discount on a €100.00 module: the 70/30 commission is NOT calculated on the final price but on €90.00 (initial price minus 10%).

Rule 3: PrestaShop's commission can't be less than €10.00.

Example, you sell a €30.00 module. PrestaShop Addons' take can't be less than €10.00 so the contributor's commission is €20.00 (which is 66,67% of final price).

1. This is rule 1.

2. This is rule 3.

About the request you sent to the Addons team, did you do it through the contact form, while being connected to your account, and after selecting "I have a problem with my seller account"? Emmanuel's inbox is up-to-date, he replies to all emails within 24hrs.

I opted out 18 days ago and haven't get even answer that my email was delivered or read. Can you please confirm that I am excluded from this great offer.

The new system with your modules being available straight from PrestaShop back-office hasn't completely rolled out yet, I don't believe your modules are there. Can you please make your request and contact the Addons team through the Addons forum? Please make sure you follow the steps explained a few lines up.

Thank you Xavier for the answer, but I don't think the issue here is how the calculations are done. I believe all here have the necessary skills for that.

The issue that has been raised here, is the way all these changes were made for us without having any other option. This one-way decision from your behalf was somehow aggressive.

I believe, at least, that the new terms and conditions, should not be applied for already existing modules. We created these modules based on the terms and conditions we accepted back then.

Hi Xavier,

Thanks for your replies but none of them answer my question. I understand the way you calculate the commissions, but I just don't understand the way you do it without our permissions. In your new Terms and Conditions, you say that you are free to apply a promotion without our permission, but there is no limit on that. I don't believe that it is fair you decide the promotion amount, time, etc without our knowledge. Some of my modules are valuable to me and I don't want them to be sold for low prices in Addons. This act may devaluate my products.

Also, giving/asking the email address is still a question in T&C. In the forum, you say that it is not allowed, but the T&C says that it is allowed.

Thanks.

Tired to me. I did what Benjamin want (http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/346579-what-does-your-commission-is-reduced-mean/?do=findComment&comment=1749364). I have very uncomfortable experience with all these forms and will never beg!

Please do what you promised! I sent the email at [email protected] on 31/07.

@MEG Venture,  which Dashboard are you referring to (Seller Account or Back Office).  I do not seem to have a section in either, that shows me this type of information.  Could you clarify for me where you see these badges?

I also think that it is totally not normal that Prestashop applies any discounts on our products without our permission.

We are the creators and owners of our products and as such, we are the only ones who can decide of any reductions to be applied to them and their amount.

So can we have an answer on the possibility for us to accept or not that discounts may be applied by Prestashop on our products ??...

We have to answer many many customer's questions but nobody asks if we agree with the discount.

You do not have to participate in this new 50% back-office advertisement program. For now, you can send me at bau[at]prestashop.com an Email with the Subject line "OPT-OUT", the message should include your Addons Seller Email.

We are developing the platform now. The terms are active now for everybody but we wanted to give you advanced notice to understand the terms and have an opportunity to ask questions before the platform is fully implemented.

Thank you for your answer Benjamin.

The commission calcul is normal, what is not normal is to apply discounts without the permission of the owner.

So if I well understand, we are not free anymore to decide the prices of our products...

Hi,

Why one of my products was bought today from back-office and reduced by 50% since I sent a mail to ask the removal of all my products from the back-office search/sale on 2014-08-18 ??...

No it wasn't, all your modules were removed. But your themes weren't, as it appears. We're going to fix that.

And yet in my mail it was indicated :

"I send you this mail to make sure that all my themes and modules will be removed from the back-office search/sale because I don't want them to be sold this way."

So very well that you will fix the problem but what about the two themes already sold via the BO since I told you that I didn't want that ?

That said, I still don't get why you'd rather not benefit from these additional sales...

Because of !#*! 50% commission?

That's it :)

I think this is for sure additionnal commissions for you, but not necessary additionnal sales for me.

I didn't say we didn't read your email correctly, I'm saying we thought that what we had done to prevent all your products to display in the back-office was working. And today, I'm explaining that we're going to fix it.

Ok you are going to fix it but what about the ones already sold ?

As for the two sales you just got, they seem very additional to me ;)

Xavier, if you have an incontestable proof that those customers would have not buy the theme by another way than their BO, you're welcome to give it to me ;)

You're welcome to swing by any time Sabrina, we'll be happy to show you how being in PrestaShop's back-end means more sales for your modules and themes. We did send you multiple invitations ;)

Ok you are going to fix it but what about the ones already sold ?

I don't know what to tell you... We can't really undo the sales, take the money back from you and the themes back from the customers.

I'm closing the topic, feel free to email me.
