Stroud Vaping
Having just wasted my entire evening in an online chat conversation with Inmotion Hosting on the back of a few recommendations from these forums, I feel I should warn others to save them wasting their time and money with this intentionally misleading company. The reason I am looking for a new host is because, like many others, I have experienced a problem with GoDaddy adding extra security which has resulted in me being unable to update any product information. On the back of a thread discussing this I found a recommendation for Inmotion Hosting, who are a Prestashop partner. Perfect I thought, a host who is going to be able to offer me the hosting service I require...how wrong I was! Upon visiting the website I found a lot of different options as always, so decided to get on their live chat to discuss them with a sales rep. In spite of the fact their basic "Launch" package states it comes with Prestashop's 1 click install, I was told it is not possible to host an ecommerce site on this option, and I should use their "Power" package as a minimum. "Why?" I asked...and I asked, and I asked, and I kept getting the same response that they don't recommend Launch as it can't handle ecommerce. After trying to find out why it says it can, and I'm being told it can't, I eventually asked for a different agent to discuss the matter with. The different agent came online and told me that although Launch can host a Prestashop site, it has limited CPU and RAM allowances and therefore it's likely to experience downtime with a heavily laden ecommerce site. "That makes sense" I said, "so how does the Power package compare for CPU and RAM?", and suddenly I was back in the world of evading answers being told that neither Launch nor Power have a figure on their limits, but they are both limited, but because they don't have a figure I can't compare the two. "Ok, fine" I say, "but it's likely I won't have downtime with Power?" and was told that yes, this is unlikely. "Great" I say "now, tell me more about your advertised free transfer of websites" to which I'm told that this isn't in fact free, but will cost me $40ph for someone to transfer it for me as GoDaddy don't use cPanel. "But your website says it's free so long as I have fewer than 3 websites/databases/cPanel accounts" I say, and get a response of "exactly, it needs to be cPanel". "No" I say, "it doesn't say it needs to be cPanel, it says it needs to be fewer than 3 cPanel accounts, which 0 most certainly is!" So, after going round in circles again on this point and getting nowhere I tell them I have wasted my time discussing this, based on false information published on their website, and that I could easily have bought the package based on this published information only to find out there were these extra charges to make any of it possible, at which point there's a brief apology for the inconvenience, a "thank you for contacting Inmotion Hosting" and the chat gets ended. I can't believe that these people are an official Prestashop partner, and would like to warn anyone thinking of using them to approach with caution, as what you see advertised is not necessarily what you will be getting! Looks like it's back to the host-hunting drawing board for me! P.S. If anyone from Inmotion is reading this, then I'd like to point out that I have kept a record of the chat conversation which I will happily share should you decide to try and deny any of this conversation. El Patron
I would stop dealing with old timey shared/vps solution companies and find a good cloud solution. Being able to ramp up resources by simple slide bar, priceless.
