HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

By the way 500 ISE errors are really easy to troubleshoot at most times, and despite the script choice is yours of course I could advise you to try some of the following:

1. Check the permissions for your prestashop installation files and folders - setting permissions respectively to 644 and 755 should work just fine.
2. Check if you do not have an .htaccess file uploaded under the root for your web site and some strange rules in it

good luck ;)

He says...

Now back offline - or not working..

I cant seem to understand what is causing this, it was working when i left work, not when i got home, working this morning and now not working after changing 'border="0"' inside editorial.tpl...

Im not doing anything with permissions and the site is going mental...

Its not showing a 500 anymore, but just a blank page.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Thanks

Dan

OK, so now working..

Not working in Safari, tried in IE - not working...

Emptied Cache, History and Cookies on IE and its working there.

Tried the same in Safari - not working

And then, as if by magic, there hasnt been enough time for me to change anything, browse onto a product and poof, blank white page again...

Im PROPER stumped onto what is going on...

Forgot to mention, using presta 1.2.5 and the admin panel is fully accessible.

Dan,

A wild guess - does your content, have anything copied and pasted from an MS Office application - often, even when pasted via the 'Word' pasting tool - it still contains XML and IE refuses to process it (due to security settings). Check your physical content, product descriptions and so on.

Perhaps you can help me with my PayPal callback issue which is driving me insane.

Edit: Also incorrectly configured htaccess will cause 500 Internal Errors. Disable SEO URLs, check your existing htaccess files for anything which may not be suitable for your running environment.

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your reply.... YES I HAVE USED STINKING MS WORD!!!!

Didnt even cross my mind - i know MS word is a NO NO when going anywhere near web dev but didnt even think...

Ive gone onto do a fresh install as luckily i can install and edit prestashop quicker than i could ever figure out whats wrong so hopefully that will work out..

Just a thought, how do i go about making sure that the descriptions dont have any nasty MS word stuff in?

Dan

Whats up with your paypal, ill try and help...

When creating the descriptions of products using the inbuilt editor - just open up the HTML view and you'll see the MS code at the very top of what ever you've pasted.

Cool, I'll have a look now.

The fresh install is up and running and got the old database linked to it and there seems to be no trouble... Makes me think the problem was else where...

Going to add the rest bit by bit to see when it breaks..

I love this site failure on launch day stuff!

Whats your paypal trouble boss?

Same as few others:

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/35674/help_configuration___use/carts_not_generating_orders

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/35696/help_configuration___use/paypal_help_urgent

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/35521/help_configuration___use/no_paypal_callback

All was working well with another cart system, then it started doing very similar issues to the above - missing orders, some would entered into the DB and others would be missing. Thinking it was the hosting service the client was using, I moved it over.. no change - moved to Prestashop, orders went through fine for a short moment and stopped working.
