Can't create a new theme?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have got my site online, I am now wanting to make my own theme but no matter what I do the theme doesn't appear in my admin cp.

I have tried, Copying the default theme folder renaming it then uploading to server. Nothing appears in the admin CP.

I have tried archiving it as a zip, Uploading to server and used the "Import from web" "Import from ftp" and even tried "Import from PC" all of which return a "Bad Configuration File Error"

I have also tried the create new theme feature to no avail, it says successful creation and a folder appears in my FTP but not in the admin CP

I am pulling my hair out, I have been googling for hours and not one thing has helped me.

I am using prestashop 1.6.0.8

If you've clearly read the first post on this topic, the person has mentioned that he/she has tried archiving it as a zip, uploading to server and used the "Import from web" "Import from ftp" and even tried "Import from PC" all of which return a "Bad Configuration File Error", and has also tried the 'create new theme' feature to no avail, it says successful creation and a folder appears in my FTP but not in the admin CP.

I believe the PS doc is to no use as far as this topic is concerned.

I have tried everything mentioned in there to no avail, it doesnt even work when trying it on my localhost, So I dont think hosting is the issue. I am with a2host if that helps in resolving the issue.

Regards,

Alex

I think I 'clearly' read the post.

there is a prescribed process, the document states the process, we do not know if the original poster followed this process so we have to use some method to have them try and report back

In the future please stay on topic and positive.

That was the doc I followed when trying to create a new theme. The upload a zip options always reports a bad configuration file error, and when I use the create a new theme option it says theme succesfully created and I can see the created theme in the themes folder on my ftp, but not in the back office, I can only see the default-bootstrap theme.

I have tried a fresh install to no avail.

I can confirm this does happen sometimes in v1.6.0.8 even if people are following PrestaShop docs. Also surprised the above user got a warning for what was a valid point, although could have perhaps been worded better.

Perhaps the frustration of 'you didn't read the docs' correctly was what annoyed her in this case.

I think for now a possible way to go about it is this:-

1) copy the default theme to you local machine, then rename, then upload new theme to theme folder (not zipped).

2) Click ADD NEW THEME in admin panel themes section, then click on 'create new theme' at the bottom.

3) Go through the steps and ensure  Name of the theme's directory is the same as the new theme name.

4) Copy missing files from existing theme choose default bootstrap.

5) Click save. It should now show in the themes section.

This is just a workaround for now..

I had such problems with losing my theme (which is based upon the default theme) after the latest update of Prestashop that I downgraded to the previous version.  I lost all my work a couple of times before I gave up, but it appears to me that there needs to be a little more configuration work on themes before implementing the update.

I'm going to wait awhile before trying again.

Just my opinion

Done that now, apparently the team are aware of this issue and it is fixed with version 1.6.0.9

It was a bug in 1.6.0.7. It was solved and noted down in the Pinned Post SOLVED BUGS on the 1.6 Forum here, http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/338654-1607-and-1608-solved-bugs/

Here is the forge report, http://forge.prestashop.com/browse/PSCSX-2432

Feel free to PM me when you think you caught a bug. I probably can help.

This issue is fixed in 1.6.0.9, please follow this thread for more information on 1.6.0.9 www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/343723-testing-only-1609-version/

This is a classic forum case of Moderator v New member

  1. New member asks question with a function that should always work.
  2. Moderator asks New Member read the docs.
  3. New Member is frustrated because they already read the docs and feels the link and Moderator weren't helpful.
  4. Moderator is frustrated because how is he supposed to know the New Member read the docs, Moderator thinks it was a legit starting question
  5. Warnings given.

It was a bug, it's been fixed. Let's shake hands and continue our day and put the communication-issues aside. Hooray
