listing top-level categories

Hi,

 

Just got the site installed, working ok, find my way around etc.

 

On my home page I've dropped the tabbed slider in the default theme, and just want to list the (currently just) 4 categories I have in the center of the page.

 

I cant seem to figure out how to do this - should it be straightforward?

 

I cant seem to hook the Category block anywhere - just get an error messag each time.

 

Any suggestions?

Where are you trying to hook the category block? Home? In that case, it's because it's not supporting the hook. If you want to go that way, try adding hookDisplayHome to the  methods of blockcategories.php. Otherwise you need a custom module
