This is what's wrong with Prestashop:

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been a Prestashop user for a couple of years now, but every new shop I've got to install is usually a headache project.

About every shop I install has some serious technical error, which can usually only be fixed by installing another (older) version, or if you're lucky theres someone on the forums who can assist you in fixing your issue. The problem here is that Prestashop has a pretty limited user community, so asking these questions on the forums usually lead no-where.

Some of the problems i've encountered over various Prestashop versions:

  • Items won't add to cart
  • Backoffice product translations didnt work
  • Categories didnt function at all
  • Products not showing on invoices

These are serious deal-breakers, and usually require a re-install. Some errors you don't notice untill pretty late in the process, and you can basically start over. Prestashop forum support is pretty dead in regard to serious bugs, and the moderators usually suspect you've just messed up your install somewhere.

I've already tought myself to never install the most recent version, because any error I try to get assitance with, has most likely not been awnsered on the forums. For older versions theres a better chance to get a fix somewhere.

Against my beliefs I've recently installed a 1.6 shop, it's been out for a while now so I figured it should be pretty stable... it's not.

The problems with the most recent version:

  • Clicking the expand-button on catergories in mobile version doesnt work (it folds back in immidiately)
  • Can't add any items to cart in Chrome
  • Product prices are messed up on some parts of the shop
  • Unable to use/switch (to) more than 1 theme

Yes, these are three huge bugs in just 1 version of PS. These bugs are found after about 1-2 hours of working with the new version. I still can't understand who at Prestashop would agree to publish such a buggy version time and time again.

I´d love to keep using Prestashop. Once it´s working, it´s a really good and complete system. The main concern for me is PS keeps pumping out new versions like it´s a Pharell song. Take the time to test, don't rush new versions, and make sure the basics are working.

It might seem like a rant, and I guess you could say I'm getting rather annoyed at finding large bugs time and time again, and having to spend a lot of time finding a 'stable' version.

Best,

Dave
