Layered Navigation Block Filter

I am trying to add a new filter to a category page. I already have a price slider and a manufacturers tick box. What I need is to have a filter on different features of a piece of equipment, ie Dual Voltage, insulation test etc.

 

When a tick box is selected it needs to show only the equipment with those features. When I have added filters using the 'product attributes' function in the BO, the selected features appear on the product detail page underneath the 'more info', 'datasheet' etc tabs complete with tick box. 

 

How can I filter products on a category page without showing the selected features on the product page? I have seen this done in Magento etc.
