Wrong Prestashop Version and I cant Upgrade because of that

Recommended Posts

I have transfer my website. All the files and database are from version 1.5.0.17. Everything works good but when I tried to upgrade to another version the version of installed prestashop showed is 1.6.0.8 but its wrong and I cant upgrade :(.

I have another domain where I installed the version 1.6.0.8 but I have uninstalled it and deleted all files within the folder of that domain and still not working.

I upgrade from 1.5.0.17 to 1.5.6.2 because I dont want to upgrade to 1.6 for now. I checked and was a mistake on the file settings.inc.php that I correct but after upgrade to 1.5.6.2 that file keeps the previous version and dont get the current (1.5.0.17 instead of 1.5.6.2). Now the issue is that the images after upgrading are not displayed. I tried with move images then with regenerate thumbnails and not work.

Please check website vapemex.com

Also I cant update any module, the button update it! dont fire any action so I cant :(

For the pictures you could switch off the pretty url's. With normal url's it is easier to see where your software is looking for pictures - and from that you can derive why it can't find them.

However, you have also other problems. It looks like you have the kind of half-way software that usually results from a faulty upgrade that crashed somewhere in the middle. The usual advice in such a situation is to go back to your backup.

Now I am confused, as that one seems to be 1.6, and you said it's 1.5.6.2...?

The first time I try to 1.5.6.2 but now I tried with 1.6 after doing the backup again and same issue.

How can I solve that? I have restore my backup again. Do I have to set a special value within ini.php file?

Unfortunately to a certain extent upgrading is trial-and-error. Browsing around to see what problems others encounter may help. I have had my share of failed upgrades too and I usually upgrade only when there is a specific benefit that I want. But a few principles may help:

  - many upgrades fail because PHP has a timeout. The main cause of this is a lengthy backup. So the advice is to make your own backup from your files and database. In the automatic upgrade of Prestashop you can then switch off the backup and things will go a lot faster.

 - switch your theme to the default theme before the upgrade. After a successful upgrade you can switch it back.

 - Never use a 1.4 theme with 1.5.

 - when it doesn't work out the first time try again. As you can use the same backup rolling back and trying again isn't that much work. Product and category images are not changed with the upgrade, so you don't need to restore those images every time.

 - when things don't work out try disabling modules. Start with those that are least compatible. Don't be conservative: you can re-install them after the upgrade.

 - if all those things don't work out you can try the Prestashop equivalent of a heart transplant: Install a clean new installation of Prestashop with all the modules that you need. Upgrade then your old shop to that version. Then you need to copy the images and the shop related tables from the database to that new installation. So you copy tables like products, categories and customers and you do NOT copy tables like modules, positions and hooks. There are other posts in the forum that explain this more elaborately.

I hope this helps...

Hi, thanks for your help but I met the same issue again:

1. Didnt make the backup so the process takes a few minutes

2. Disabling the non native modules

3. Using the default theme

4. The last advice I dont know how to do it exactly :S

I dont know but I think I wont never upgrade my prestashop version :'(

One final option I forgot to mention: in some cases the upgrade on the server (not localhost) fails because the hosting provider has too strict security settings and the upgrade process is refused the rights to overwrite the files. In such a situation you should consult your provider. I once dealt with such a customer by downloading the whole shop, upgrading it up on my local computer and then uploading it again.

If you want more advice you should provide info on the error messages you are getting.

I suggest you install a software like WAMP, then download the prestashop zip file, extract it to the www folder of wamp, and simply access it from the browser by reaching localhost/prestashop (or the folder name)
