starxox
For months now I have been having a problem where I couldn't upload product images, they would not show. The weird thing is it did work for a bit then stopped. I know many of you have had this problem and as far as I can see there has been no answer on the forum(Im assuming here that your problem is not to do with friendly seos and having your htacces file etc, that problem has been solved)Firstly I asked my host to switch over from the version of PHP that is not supposed to work to a newer one, which they did but this didn't helpSo I spoke again to my excellent hosting company (Vidahost), and together we came to the conclusion it was a permissions problem since nothing was appearing in the tmp or p folder in the images folder. So they first switched me over to suPHP (this was for free and no hassle to me) but it still wasn't working so they had a play and realised that Prestashop also needed exec() enabling. And now I can upload images again, yay!!I don't really know what this means but many of you probably do and if not ask your host, or even better switch to vidahost! (I don't work for them I promise!) but I have been consistently blown away by their excellent customer support. I frequently get responses from them in the early hours of the morning and even on sundays, and they are so quick and helpful. They are also a really reasonable price! I've never had another host but just comparing the customer service to that of other companies, its amazing, highly recommended!!Louisa
supersesam
I experienced this problem too.My solution (after i read your comment about "exec()")chmod the /img directory to 0777 including subfolders. I have no idea how the properties can change, but that must be what happened...I hope this can be any help for others
Timmer
Changing permissions didn't fix this issue on our installation. So we assume the fault lies with exec(). Our hosting provider refuses to enable exec() saying that it is a security risk.Does anyone have a workaround? All of PrestaShop appears to work fine EXCEPT that the product images won't import. I suppose we could do that manually, but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a CMS in the first place!-Timmer
starxox
yes it didn't work for me either, thats why I had to find the exec problem. My advice is change your host! Vidahost are amazing, anything needs doing to help you they will do it straight away. My site has no down time and their prices are really good too, plus they now have this thing installed that lets you test out a version of prestashop - I haven't used it yet but it lets you check that a new version all works with your store without having to actually change your live store. they are a really good company! Timmer
Thanks, starxox.I'm in the US, so VidaHost isn't too attractive, but I've sent them a request to see if they have (or will soon have) a US presence.-Timmer
starxox
yes didn't think of that. Was thinking about what you said about a security risk and fyi just remembered that vida host switched me onto some kind of more secure server when they did this change so I suppose that was something to do with how they avoided the security risk. Timmer
My current host offered to do the same, but our monthly cost would have quintupled! That's why I'm looking for a new hosting service.BTW - VidaHost got back to me already (unheard of!!!) and they DO have a US presence, so I'm going to give them a try. I'll mention that I heard about them through you.
starxox
yes that is what they are always like - so quick! (sometimes they reply within minutes when its 1 and 2 in the morning!) Hmm yes please do mention me I just remembered that I think you get some kind of discount for referring me...Just checked on the website and if you use this link http://my.vidahost.com/aff.php?aff=510 I get some kind of bonus so would be super cool if you can - or other wise just mention the name of my shop StormJewel's gifts! Many thanks!
