free themes vs paid themes.

I am trying to create a site for another customer that needs prestashop, however doesn't matter where i get a theme, or even on any of the test/active sites we have even tried adding the free theme on the already active customer, the install screen doesn't do anything but return to the import screen for the module. All sites are using 1.5.6.2. However if I test the new servers with the paid zip file low and behold the screen goes to the next step. however I only tried going to the next step tho I will not use my other customers paid theme for another customer who is too cheap to buy their own theme.(i know the one domain policy) I only tried that to see if the test site was broken with a new install or what. Doesn't matter where we download the free themes from here or other sites, it still won't go to the second step screen. IS there a different way to install free themes? And yes the themes are 1.5x compatable. what to do what to do?

You are trying to use "thethemeinstaller"?  Same issue here.

 

You can do it manually via ftp.  I have this but then the new theme seems to inherit images and what not from the default theme.  Grrrrrrr.
