Searching numbers

It appears that the standard search in v1.6 does not include numbers, even if they are entered in the product tags. Because the major distinguishing feature between products being sold is the issue number of a magazine, that makes the whole search somewhat meaningless. Entering the mag name and a number returned every issue. Entering the number only returned zero products.

Sarch preferences have already been reduced to include single characters (so that single numbers can be searched) and the index has been rebuilt, but even before this (with the default three characters) the search would not find three-digit numbers.

Is there a way to change the search to include numbers?

How about settings those mag. numbers as references and then hiding references in Front Office? I am not sure if search includes numbers or not, this reference thing should solve it right away. Then you can inspect the find function in Classes/search.php for further information about numbers..

Thanks for the suggestion, though I'm not sure how to follow through. I looked at search.php and the code in there is well beyond me. But how would I set a number as a reference, then hide it in Front Office? Sorry - don't know how to do this. I have to suspect I would need to go through every one of 250 products to enter a number somewhere, which is already there as a tag but not being searched ... Or at least, not being returned from a search.

Yes, that's exactly right. You will need to go through those products again and fill out the reference fields. I get that it's prob. too much work and a big pain in the butt, but other than that I see hiring a freelancer the only choice you're left with...

Thanks ...

I think in the meantime I'll look for a new module that will search and include numbers ... Might be easier and cost less. Beats me why the standard Prestashop search feature ignores numbers.

Let me know if you find a module that does that! I'd like to know if there's such a module out there.

I'll post here if successful. Still seems odd that numbers (on their own) are not searchable. Now I see where you mean to use the Reference field, which I presume you mean the SKU (stock code) - that is indeed searchable and can be hidden, but is already populated so it isn't a route open to me.

I have a workaround solution.

Summary: search in 1.6 does not find numbers. Searching for 263, for example, even if this is in the tag, returns zero. Entering the relevant number in the alias section in the Search setup, against the SKU, produces the correct result with no errors or incorrect returns.

It will take a lot of work to enter all the aliases, but it's a workaround. It would be way better if the search did what it is supposed to do, and include numbers though.
