Can someone tell me about the cache folder.

I often read that if there are problems you should delete some or all of the folders in the cache folder.

How does this work and what are the dont's and does ?

I also read somewhere that if you delete the cache folder you cannot log in on the back office anymore. Is this true?

cache system in prestashop allows you to increase your shop performance.

files and directories in caching directory are stored there TEMPORARILY. files are regenerated after some time (cache live time)

so, if you remove these files, all of them will be regenerated automatically.

it can affect website.

to fully regenerate caching - in some cases you have to refresh page several times, especially when you've got a lot of products, categories, pages etc.

In my shop running 1.5.4.1 the cache folder is 12.6mb (16.4mb disk space) with 1737 files in 5915 folders.

In my shop with 1.4.9.0 the cache is not so clear but the tools/smarty/cache folders is 7.25mb (8.73mb disk) and has 559 files in 0 subfolders.

Both shop have some errors. In my 1.4.9.0. shop, if a customer is changing the account there is only one country in the drop-down list where in other cases the drop-down list all countries. Some people on the forum suggested to delete the cache to get it working.

Since yesterday the other shop with 1.5.4.1 is showing the attributes/values incorrectly. Before it was ok and now it has changed but without me changing anything nor adding any addons or modules. All of my products have sizes. Some also have several colors. Now the colours are not shown anymore. Just a radio button without text.  The attribute text has been replace by a word of a color that even does not exist in the attribute values.

Could this / these be caused by the cache ?
