Multistore structure plan

Hello,

Can anybody help me with my Prestashop installation plan?

How/where should I setup my Prestashop 1.6 structure in a multistore environment?
In the future I want to be able to use;
- subdomains; store1.domain1.com, store2.domain1.com, etc.
- different domains; store1.domain1.com, store1.domain2.com, store1.domain3.fi, etc.
- ssl for each store

In the Getting started instructions there is a title "Making a plan" but where can I
find more specific information about the installation (apache/prestashop)?

Are threre any advantages to put the prestashop files in a sub directory?

I will only have a number of stores on my server.
