Select which carrier tracking url to use when I enter the tracking number?

Recommended Posts

When I enter the tracking number on an order in the backend, is there some way to select which carrier I am using?

I offer free worldwide shipping on all my items so I have just one carrier set up in the backend but some items ship ups, some ship usps, some dhl, some fedex, etc...depending on the size and weight and which carrier is the fastest/cheapest for the address.

The problem is the tracking URL, it's set on a per-carrier basis in the backend but I never know which item is going to ship with which carrier so unfortunately I cannot set up different carriers and assign them to the items.

Is there some way in the backend (module or otherwise) to enter the tracking number and select the carrier then have it pick the preset tracking url based on my selection?

Like I said this is pretty urgent. If someone wants to throw some suggestions my way I would greatly appreciate it!

I found a free script that works well for this. I have to load a separate tab and enter the order number so it's a bit slow, but it does work.

Here is the script: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/185401-free-script-product-mass-edit-category-multi-edit-order-edit/

For anyone who may find this thread looking for a solution... what I did was create a single "free shipping" carrier that I use on every item with no tracking url set. Then I created a carrier for each actual carrier I use and entered in the correct tracking url. I do not list these carriers on my items. When I ship an order I use the script to set the actual carrier I used and then (and only then) I enter in the tracking number so it updates to the customer with a proper tracking link and number.

Works well, but a little time consuming and tedious.

I'll be doing this a few hundred times every week from now on, so if anyone had a better or more automated solution feel free to post below. I'll keep an eye on this thread for the forseeable future. if I come up with something better I'll share it too.
