Issue with Language/Translation - 404's and missing products

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've been struggling with this issue for the past day and was hoping someone can shed some light on it. I have a new store I've been working on and when I try to go to the french translated area it seems the URLs are wrong. I've tried deleting/regenerating htaccess, disabling friendly urls and clearing the smarty cache. I also deleted french and readded it. When I disable friendly URL's the product images start working again but the links are still broken and the menus/categories are still missing. You also can't add any items to the cart with the quick cart while using the french version.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It seems that you didn't translate you site?

Can you tell me how do you proceed to translate? the mod_rewrite is working so it is not from there!

Thanks for the reply walidon,

I added the language under Localization > Languages

Then I went to Localization > Translation and did Add / Update a language

If I do the same on a fresh install with the same theme I lose the mega menu in the french section but the product thumbnails, categories and product urls still work so I'm confused.

mmm Do you translate the things that you create? Translation is not automatic! you have to enter both languages!

for example:

in the megamenu, you have in English "About" which will be " A Propos" in French, so you have to enter the french word too.

in the editor of anything that you write you will have the flag of UK/USA (for English) and the flag of France (for French) so when you finish the English for example, click on the french flag to do the french version.

More images now appear in your homepage!

I am still thinking that you do not translate everything!

translate the categories/subcategories, the names of the products... anything that you wrte in English/french should be translated to the ther language!

I just noticed that as well.. When I initially posted this all of the products were missing images and proper links from the home page... I didn't do anything and they appeared. I wonder what happened in between. I will mess with the translations.

Thanks for your help Walidon!

So I've got the categories all translated and they can be switched to French from F/O, however they still aren't appearing in the french blockcategories module. Any ideas anyone?

What do you mean they dnt appear in the blockcategories modules?

You add categories by going to catalogue-categories

It is there where you add categories or subcategories or make the translation

I've attached a screenshot of the english/french version of the same page. I used catelogue -> categories to create french translations for every one of my categories. But as you see below they don't get picked up by the sidebar. I also translated items in my menu such as about and products but they also are failing to appear:

Also if I enable the blockcategories module in the footer it works in French in the footer but stays broken in the sidebar:
