Problems with registering at checkout

I put my website online nearly 2 weeks ago and noticed I had a quite a lot of abandoned carts but no sales.

 

On investigation I found that when you register at checkout it just does not work.  Despite all fields being filled in you get the message:

1. You must register at least one phone number.
2. Country cannot be loaded with address->id_country
3. Country is invalid
4. id_country is required.
5. lastname is required.
6. firstname is required.
7. address1 is required.
8. city is required.

I am running Prestashop version 1.6.0.6 default-bootstrap theme.

 

Any help would be very much appreciated.
