Why is the default theme not v 1.2 compatible and how can I make it 1.2 compatible?

I'm upgrading a shop I set up for a local business and I have a v 1.1 theme I deigned based on the default Prestashop theme. I enabled the setting in the BO to allow v 1.1 themes, but I'd really like to upgrade my theme to be compatible with 1.2.x.

I cannot find any source explaining what changed between v 1.1 and 1.2 and what I can do to update my theme. Can any of you theme designers out there enlighten me? I don't want to make any huge changes to my layout, I just want to update whatever identifies it as v1.1 to 1.2.

I don't understand why the default theme that comes with the with 1.2.5 is still v1.1. :|

If you download Prestashop v1.2.5, the theme in themes/prestashop is v1.2.5 compatible. You just need to copy it into a different directory and make changes so it looks the same as your v1.1 theme.
