bins_uk
First, I would like to say that PrestaShop looks like a great piece of kit, with the potential to more succesful than other, more established, carts. - Well done, the developers!I have the following requirement for a project and wondered if Prestashop can manage this. The cart will be selling a range of products that are stocked in 2 locations - EU & China. Goods from the EU will include duty and tax and from China will be duty free. Because of this, I need to set 2 fixed prices, dependant on where the customer orders it from. Using 1 price and doing a currency conversion is not acceptable for each location, although I would like customers to choose their settlement currency (based on each locations base price).I hope this makes sense. So, can PrestaShop handle this?bins
Peter Wilson
Hi bins,In a word: Yes!For taxes, first you would create two Zones: "EU" (containing the EU countries) and "China" (containing China). Then when creating your tax rate(s) you would assign them to the "EU" zone only. Customers identifying themselves as from China during account creation would not be charged any tax at checkout, because no taxes would be assigned to their Zone.Details: http://www.prestashop.com/wiki/Taxes/For currencies, it's even easier: http://www.prestashop.com/wiki/Currencies/
bins_uk
Peter, thanks for the response. I do not think it is that easy, for the following reasons (I may not have made this clear enough).Where every you are in the world, you can order from each 'zone'. So, if in the UK, fpr example,, you can buy ex EU, with duty and VAT applied (this only makes sense if you are in the EU), with the base price in Euro. You can pay in £ or $, but this is to be calculated from the Euro base price. However, if the customer is in the UK (or anywhere else in the world) and is happy to manage their own importation, they can order from China, where no VAT or duty is applied. The base cost of this item will be in $ (but they can pay in € or £) and will be different to the one above.Does this make sense?I really think that multishop, with independant shipping and price management, eventual will be my solution, but I was hoping that PrestaShop could manage it! Peter Wilson
Ah OK, yes that's more clear. At the moment PrestaShop does not handle multiple depots, which would be the most suitable solution, in combination with Zone functionality.Mulitple shop functionality would be another way to do it, albeit a clumsier one. We will be developing multiple-shop functionality for an upcoming release. I can't give you a date yet, but I can say it will be included before multiple depots. 8-/
