Subdomain for multistore does not work

It clearly states in the manual that one should not create URL's manually, but instead let PS handle this: http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS16/Setting+a+shop%27s+URL --> the sentence with the exclamation mark

 

I wonder how this is handled by PS exactly...

 

It cannot be handled with an htaccess, because a different subdomain means leaving the original domain (the one where the htaccess is stored).

 

To test this I activated the multistore option and changed the URL for my main store from "www.shop.com" to "b2b.shop.com".

 

When calling "b2b.shop.com" in my browser, I get the message "Firefox cannot find the server", which I expected, since the physical subdomain has never been created on the server.

 

Am I forgetting something, am I misreading or is the manual wrong?

you would need to 'alias' for plesk, or 'park' for cpanel, the subdomain to the main domain, and then define the subdomain to ps using multistoe.

Using cPanel or Plesk (or DirectAdmin for that matter) means creating the URL manually. It clearly says in the manual:

 

Do not create any URL manually, either on your server or your computer: PrestaShop takes care of creating the URL for you on your server. When accessing this URL, PrestaShop will direct visitors to the correct store automatically.

 

So the manual is wrong??

you need dns yes?  without dns, you have no subdomain...this is outside of real of prestashop

I understand the need for MANUALLY creating a subdomain.

 

But once again, then why does the manually say "Do not create any URL manually???

I am not yelling, I was emphasing things.

 

I just want you to answer my question. If you imply that I create the subdomain manually (which sounds logical to me), why does the manual say:

 

"Do not create any URL manually"

 

Since you apparently are one of the PS developers, could you explain why the manual confuses people and not just say: "hey, if you want a subdomain, contact your hosting provider or use Plesk/cPanel etc...."
