infoseek
first much thanks to you presta team for giving us a excellent ecommerce solution,as well as those members in the forum whose posts gives that makes me get familiar with the product.now I want to to do some customation with the product, this refer to some php and html/css change to the scripts,if so it will not easy for any updates,so which version is the best recommended? I need your suggestions? now I tend to use the newest version 1.2.5,please don't heisitate to share your ideas, thank you !btw, sorry for my poor english,I comes from china,I'm glad that more and more chinese knows the software and using it,so if you have any business in china and have some questions about payment and diliverery in china, please feel free to get in touch with me! infoseek
another question I'm also very concern is that is there any pressure test(mass data test)? for example how many products ,attibutes, sub-categories,product-images can the software afford to its limit.another suggestion is that:can presta team put every block html files into the root files(index.php,product.php etc)' tpl file(such us product.tpl/index.tpl) instead to just put $hook_left_column,$hook_right_column,$hook_center_column in it. by doing this ,one can modify the html easier so as to get more personality page! infoseek
Philippe Sang, thx for your reply, yes, version 1.2.5 is my choice, but because I would give some changes with the php files so I wouldn't update as the later version's release.and any response to my second concern and suggestions? Matthieu Biart
Hi infoseek!Starting with the lastest stable version is always the best way to add "core" modifications. The further away you are from the next release, the harder it will be to upgrade.Concerning the limitations, PrestaShop "has none", I mean it depends completly of your server. If you have a shared server with limited resources, of course you won't be able to handle hundred of thousands of products. But even with limited resources PrestaShop can correctly handle thousands ;-)Sub-categories do not consume so much resources, so saying that they are unlimited is almost true. btw, sorry for my poor english,I comes from china,I'm glad that more and more chinese knows the software and using it,so if you have any business in china and have some questions about payment and diliverery in china, please feel free to get in touch with me! Actually, we are looking for worldwide tax and law information in order to be as compatible as possible with as much as possible of them. And a topic on the China's situation would be really appreciated here: Tax & Law forum
infoseek
Hi infoseek!Actually, we are looking for worldwide tax and law information in order to be as compatible as possible with as much as possible of them. And a topic on the China's situation would be really appreciated here: Tax & Law forum thx,I have post some tax and law rules in china follow your links at http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/32764/taxes___laws__call_to_communitys_contribution/china_taxes , I don't know if i have explain the issue clearly. if you have any questions, please feel free to ask more.and as my suggestion at another suggestion is that:can presta team put every block html files into the root files(index.php,product.php etc)' tpl file(such us product.tpl/index.tpl) instead to just put $hook_left_column,$hook_right_column,$hook_center_column in it. by doing this ,one can modify the html easier so as to get more personality page! can you consider this suggestion? regards
Trip
Hi Infoseek, when you have a look at the http://www.prestashop.com/en/showcase_liveshops/ Liveshops you will see that you can "personalize" prestashop. It is for shure a little bit more advanced but the prestashop approach keeps it in the end more flexible or at least maintainable. Besides that the whole structure and all the modules are based on this pattern. It is quite implausible, that they will change it.Regards, trip
infoseek
hello trip,it's kind of you to post a quick reply, yes ,I have go though all the live demo shops at the http://www.prestashop.com/en/showcase_liveshops/ ,and also the live shop at http://prestashop.free.fr ,some are really great, so I want to get a personalised look of my shop, I know a little php and smarty, this will help me.yes you said that the whole structure and all the module system is based on such a pattern, I haven't gone all the codes through, so i don't know if my suggestions are practicable, but if you can managed to do that, it's easier to costomlise the apperance ,and I think if you want to do so ,you can managed to do it. Nothing is impossible, only the unexpected.
Trip
Hi infoseek,I don't know that much about templating and smarty but I think most can be done by make a copy of the default template in the themes directory and than you start to modify the css and if needed the *.tpl files to make your own design. This is the less painfull approach if you want to update your shop and it is obvious, that there will be more updates in the future.Allthough some people complain about smarty and the templating the main idea is to keep the code clean, structured and more secure. Greetings to china, trip
