Warrer
Hi. I'm currently in the process of creating a new webshop and i've found that Prestashop seems to be the best CMS for me to use. However before I decide to jump in I have a few quick questions that I would be very grateful if one of you Presta Experts could help me with. 1. I see a new 1.6 version has just been released but that 1.5.x is still by far the most popular. Is there any major reason for me to use 1.6 over 1.5 for my shop? I plan on buying a theme and I see that the majority of them don't support 1.6. 2. If I buy a theme are there any ''major restrictions'' on how much I will be able to switch around and customize? 3. Will customizing the theme for my own use be technically difficult for someone completely new to prestashop?(I.E. Translation of shop, Switching Logo & Logo location, switching around on the modules, custom blocks, changing colour scheme and the general tweaks that need to be done to make the theme turn into my actual own shop) I have some experience with html and css (from exstensive wordpress use)
vekia
1) 1.5 will not be updated anymore (some fixes will be included in nearest update, but i bet that it will be the last update) If i were you i will use 1.6, more powerful, looks much better, and this version is still in development 2) There are no restrictions, you can change as much as you want. but in fact, everything depends on license, almost each major shop with themes allow to apply changes. 3) translations & customizing: no theme modifications: if you don't know smarty, php, css and in some cases js - it will be hard, but if you've got knowledge - it will be very easy
