Logo / Homepage Image / icon dimensions larger than when uploaded in firefox?

Hi there, I have searched for this, and haven't found anything..hopefully you can help. I'm pretty well versed in css/web design and have never come across this issue in a fixed layout.


For some reason all the images (homepage logo, icons, logo, advertising block) I've uploaded, are increased a fraction which makes them appear blurry/poorer quality. After using firebug to add the correct img width="" height="" attributes the logo is fixed. (this can't be done on the icons as they are background images)


My question is really why are these images being enlarged and how can the icons and other custom imgs be changed to correct dimensions? Obviously no in preferences>images regarding their dimensions as they're custom sizes.


They seem fine on smaller resolutions (my laptop for example). On my main screen however they have been stretched even though this is a fixed layout.
