Make search return all results if box has no value

Can someone help me either find a setting or another option to make the search return all results if you click the eyeglass while having no value in the search box? I'm using a filter module, but it only works AFTER you've gotten to a results page. I'd like to be able to let my users filter down all of our products. We are a publishing company with multiple criterion available to sort through our inventory. Currently there is no option I can find to display ALL products in the results area.

 

I can show that we have X number of products within a criterion, however the search page has 0 results based on a blank field.
