BWarner
Hey, just upgraded an installation from 1.5 to 1.6, and it broke the (new 1.6) default template (moved the cart from its proper position to below the main menu). Which is fine, I don't mind tweaking stuff manually but, well, here's the issue:Not only is there no way to restore the default template to its original state (would be nice to have a one-click "let's start this from scratch" feature) without uploading the default files, but I can't even do it manually. Tried exporting the theme as it exists on the server, and I'll go through the steps to the point where it OUGHT to prompt my browser for a download, but no download appears, even after giving it some time.So I figure, alright, I'll just download a fresh copy of Presta1.6 and rename+upload the default theme. Zip it, upload it, and... it complains about the (default) config file.So my question is this: what am I doing wrong? I'd like to stay with 1.6 and to keep the default theme for now, but I'd like to be able to export (read:customize) it, and I'm at a loss. (Side note: new to Prestashop, but not to web dev in general)
BWarner
Would it be worth backing up everything, reinstalling Presta entirely, and then just pulling in the backed up DB files? I'd REALLY rather to avoid this route (cannot stress this enough), but I suppose it's an option to keep in my back pocket. PS. here's the site I'm working with: http://tinyurl.com/mcaao3b

BWarner
Aha - that did the trick. Thanks, saved me a lot of headache.
BWarner
That said, any reason that it might refuse to export the theme, without returning any error? I would like to have the power to edit my themes. Edited April 11, 2014 by BWarner (see edit history)
stottycabanas
Hi BWarner, welcome to the forums. You're using the phrase 'export the theme' quite a lot. I'm not clear what you mean by that. Especially when you say 'export (read: customise)' - the two words are unrelated. If you just want to customise or edit your theme, there's nothing preventing you from doing that. If you want to edit the default theme, make a copy of it first, then edit the copy - easier for upgrading. Cheers, Dave
BWarner
I'm using export in the same way that Presta uses it - making a local copy of a given theme that exists within my current installation. My process for attempting an export: Preferences > Themes > Export Theme , then going through the ~2 page 'wizard'. At the point which I'd expect my browser to start a file download, nothing - a blank white screen just stares me in the face.
stottycabanas
OK, that's a new feature in 1.6 which I hadn't noticed before. If you have a blank screen, turn error reporting on by editing /config/defines.inc.php, changing _PS_MODE_DEV_ from false to true. Try exporting again and you'll get a more detailed error message which you can post here. Cheers, Dave
dioniz
Another way is to make new theme. In Preferences > Themes click Add new theme and near bottom of page click Create new theme. On next page fill data and select to copy from default theme. Click Save
BWarner
Thanks! When I upgraded to the latest version of prestashop, it fixed the export, so whatever. Y'know dioniz, I didn't even see that there. Talk about staring me in the face!
