keitaro
hello al first off my site is www.loco1hobby.net i use /en/ and /ja/ for languages my issue is i have it set to be www.loco1hobby.net in google webmasters. however google gets many errors moved 301 i think and it`S trying to index http://loco1hobby.net removing the www. so my question is if i use multi store to enable both non www and www urls will that make my rank worse it`s already bad. I have entered the site into webmaster as www. but it still wishes to crawl without www. Also i can note that bing crawls fine. and i did update sitemaps and gave a week still getting those errors. Another is how can i add a H1 tag to my site i tried home text editor? but it didn`t reflect the changes.
Spark111
There's a lot to say. Let's see where to start. Entering http://loco1hobby.net invokes two 301's: one to the www.version en one to: http://www.loco1hobby.net/en/ So far so good, if that's what you want. So yes, 2 sites make your rank worse. Please also read the PS manual about when to use multishop. There is a setting in Google WMT, where you can set the preferred domain (top right corner in your console, the cogwheel). Furthermore you might explore Google webmaster blog (http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.nl/)for geo-targetting and language settings in the header. Also a lot of videos, which explain it in detail: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebmasterHelp About the H1: The main title in your home text editor should be the H1. If not, then adjust the editor's template. I think I have answered all. As for the questions not asked: I can't find a link to your ja-site, but it loads fine. You might want to consider adding links to both sites, to improve ranking of both. Good luck.
keitaro
hello thanks for your reply. fist off i have added <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="http://www.loco1hobby.com/en/" /><link rel="alternate" hreflang="ja" href="http://www.loco1hobby.com/ja/" /> right under the header is this correct i believe it should be there to adhere to Google guide lines? "Entering http://loco1hobby.net invokes two 301's: one to the www.version en one to: http://www.loco1hobby.net/en/ So far so good, if that's what you want. So yes, 2 sites make your rank worse. Please also read the PS manual about when to use multishop." so is this normal? should the site either auto redirect to English or Japanese? does these 301`s make Google think it is 2 sites? I have set the site to be preferred domain www.loco1hobby.net. That is why i was confused as to why it`S doing no www. As they are not in the sitemap. As for the questions not asked: I can't find a link to your ja-site, but it loads fine. You might want to consider adding links to both sites, to improve ranking of both. At the top of the site you can choose Japanese (ja) are you saying i should add a text or banner some where on the en site for going to the ja site? Spark111
Hreflang link element is good for language targetting. I wouldn't use both on all pages. Stricly speaking the hreflang is a way to show, that there is an alternative page in another language. I am not sure that it is bad, but I think, that show one is the preferred way. But there is also something like geo-targetting. I suppose that you would target the ja section on Japan, right? There are ways to do this and since you have a generic tld you will be able to geo-target your site in GWMT. The 301's are normal for PS. I suppose, that google tries to crawl the root domain and gets redirected to the en-version. There are a few links to the root domain so that makes sense: See http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=loco1hobby.net Please do a search on the meaning of 301's: permanent redirects. So no, on the contrary, you show google, that certain pages are permanently moved to the specified location. I missed the language selector. A bit small for my old eyes. This one is fine. It has an organic link to the ja-site so that's ok.
inweb
Authorize both www.loco1hobby.net and loco1hobby.net domains in GWT and then set preferred domain of both to www.loco1hobby.net. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/44231?hl=en
