What a shame - I give up with Prestashop 1.6 - BYE BYE!

Recommended Posts

The advertisements say " Prestashop 1.6 is great"

All I can see is other people having a partially built site with a few items changed from the pre installed blank templates.

Is anyone actually using 1.6 successfully?

I have been using 1.5 for the last year and I have spent so much time trying to upgrade to 1.6 I am now giving up!

I can't even import my 2000 products or my customers from 1.5 and I am certainly not adding each item again.

No replies to my messages on the forum.

It's a different platform for me.

Bye Bye Prestashop.

That's a shame cos I have upgraded easily an my 4000 prod Ucts came across seamlessly. Furthermore it now looks modern and more impressive. Sure a few teething problems and a new learning curve but advice is around and in a short while I'm sure there will b plenty of new tutorials.

PS I play darts as well!

you posted for 'odd' way to upgrade to 1.6, import customers etc.  that is why you did not get responses.  Sometimes when we have 'serious' business and we can not do ourselves or find free support in the forum then it's best to invest in business by hiring expert to accomplish.

what you wanted to do (import into clean shop) is not the recommended except for 'advanced users' i.e. manual upgrade.

for what you wanted to do, you  should visit cart to cart service or use advanced user manual upgrade method rather  than inventing their own upgrade method :)

I have created dozens of sites with Prestashop over the years, and currently have two sites online with 1.6. Both of them upgrades from previous versions. Sure, I had a few problems upgrading them, but these were mostly due to incompatible 1.5 modules. I consider myself an expert with Prestashop, and this is because when I have not found solutions on here, I have tried to figure things out for myself. I have posted many unanswered topics on here, but instead of complaining, I have tried to figure out a solution myself, and have become more proficient with the software as a result.

This is a Free eCommerce solution so expecting immediate assistance and expecting everyone to prioritize your messages as urgent, is a bit inconsiderate. If someone has a solution, they post it, but there is not always someone online with the solution that you may be looking for. On the rare occasion when I have encountered a particularly difficult problem, someone from Prestashop has accessed the site I was working on and personally dealt with my problem, so really, I cannot think of a thing to complain about.

Prestashop is not Microsoft with thousands of employees waiting for your queries............and actually it is a great deal less buggy than Microsoft's offerings.

People were encouraged to test the pre-release versions and report bugs. Every bug that I reported was fixed quickly, so  I consider Prestashop to be an exceptional product and 1.6 to be a world class eCommerce solution. Any new release is bound to have teething problems, but just look on Github to see how much work is being done to ensure that this is a a fantastic product.

Good luck finding a better solution, and in case I don't notice when you come back, as a fellow user of this FREE software, I wish you a hearty welcome on your return.

Thank you very much guys for responding to this post.

I was beginning to think there was no-one out there!

I am getting a bit despondent as I have spent so much time myself and I have even asked someone else who has Prestashop experience to help and he couldn't do it either.

I did however create a new domain name as an experiment so it wouldn't mess up the live site so my live 1.5 site is still going strong.

I downloaded a fresh new version of 1.6 but read that there was a problem on the first day so did it again a few days later.

I can't import my customers or my categories and products.

If there is anyone out there that can do it for me or teach me how to do it, I will gladly pay for your time, I am willing to pay so that isn't the issue. The problem is, it doesn't seem to work!

I would love to use the new 1.6 as it look really good and I step in the right direction but definitely need help!!!!

Don't feel alone, I would not do my own upgrades.  And please make sure you have a good business reason to upgrade to 1.6 and that you already have a 'new' theme picked out as you existing theme with it's included modules will most likely (read  they won't) be compliant with 1.6.

I suggest posting in the job offers section.  I recommend  bellini13

here is link to where to post

don't lose hope, upgrading anything is very difficult, I did it for a living until I was 42, burned out and retired, now 56 and still  shell shocked feeding goats in the andes.

please return here and let us know how it went and link to your new cool shop.

Hi Yngvi,  Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I am sorry, I must have come across wrongly, I am not expecting instant replies of free advice, I have contacted three different people and offered to pay but can't get the problem resolved.

I hope I can find someone as I do like the look of 1.6, I just need to get help.

Regards

Paul
