[SOLVED] Blank index.php homepage after updating all modules

Recommended Posts

Shame on you PrestaShop Team. I once threw them modifications which prevented updates productcomments because it was not compatible, why nobody did this for the other modules? Completely irresponsible behavior.

What you can do now? Download PrestaShop from here: https://github.com/PrestaShop/PrestaShop-1.5/archive/master.zip and replace all modules files.

Anyway of rolling back the update?

Or would it work if I upgrade my site to 1.6 now?

it's because xmls with information about updates were downloaded before you switched this option to no, remove these files from config/xml/ and notifications will disappear, and files will not be downloaded anymore (if you disabled option to inform about updates)

Can't remember all, I just went down the list and updated ... a dew I can remember is

  • Block advertising
  • Categories block
  • CMS Block
  • Data mining for statistics
  • Image slider for your homepage
  • Layered navigation block
  • Manufacturers block
  • Shipping Estimate
  • Top horizontal menu

Can I just download Krystian's master file and overwrite my files on my domain? ... would there have been database changes as well?

Yes, I know. But we know this because we studied it, but what normal users must do in such a situation ? ;) They will not know about it.

You have to uninstall, remove and then install the old ones.

yes you can, but overwrite only modules that you upgraded, no core etc.

No need to uninstall the current version first?

When doing the updates from the Modules in the backend, is it only files thats copied across? No database changes? if so, I can maybe just ask my hosting company to restore all files from backup?

Krystian, take a look how it works in 1.6,

if an update of module is available to download - you have to update it, you can't even "configure" module, because instead of configure button you will see... update it! :D

thanks god that it doesn't work like that in 1.5 :P

oh come on! what they did :o

I have not tested the new version too well but I'm afraid it's buggy,  because in the RC version I saw a lot of mistakes that are probably still here, but I'm not going to use their Forge, if they enable issues on github then I'm back to help them :P

Krystian, which version Prestashop is that in your master file? I'm on 1.5.6.2 would your files still work?

This is official repo and the latest PrestaShop 1.5, modules from this package must work fine.

Another question ... sorry, but I'm new to PS and not a very big developer

  • So I backup my database via phpmyadmin
  • uninstall all modules I have updated
  • delete all modules I have updated
  • copy files Krystian's master files (in modules directory) to my domain/modules
  • go back into backend/modules
  • install and enable modules again

Thanks guys, seems like it's all working again

After reading all your comments regarding PS 1.6 , I'll wait a little longer before updating to PS 1.6

You really need to find another e-commerce solution. I know i am moving away from Presta after investing a huge amount of time and money...

Is there anything better out there which is still FREE, with all the functionality, modules and support Prestashop has to offer????

I am testing one now :)

By support, i hope you mean this forum? As i never had any reply from the Presta team till today. Even the one on the homepage saying they will help you convert TO prestashop....(if the team is reading this, dont bother answering that anymore ;)

Damn... Seriously, someone from PrestaShop team who doesn't think about old version should get a bad punch in the face.

Please. don't spoil my day with verbal violence. Just think about, that you don't pay a penny for the programmers work. You are using other peoples time. So you have to deal with their faults as well. You don't have not a right to complain about. But you can help to find out, what is screwed up.

i completely disagree. yes, it's free, but it's also people's livelihoods and businesses at stake here. when something as simple as an update takes down your whole site, you're potentially losing out on money you could be making.

you can't provide a service like this, free or otherwise, and mess up the simple things and expect people to keep using it.
