Flmbx
Hello, My Prestashops are hosted on windows servers. I receive a lot of echo's from specialists mentioning that PS is meant for Linux (and I don't disagree on that). Should I expect difficulties? We're now in the middle of an upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 but things aren't going very smoothly actually. A lot of files that need to be adapted to Windows. The reason for 1.5 is multistore...will multistore run ok on the windows servers or is linux really the better option?
Bill Dalton
I use Windows because that is what I know. Programs like Prestashop or WordPress require PHP and MySQL. Both Windows and Linux run PHP and MySQL. If you are planning to run a dedicated server, it really comes down to which operating system you know best. Both will work equally well for running Prestashop. Hosting fees for Linux are less costly than Windows hosts. If you are going to use shared hosting, Linus hosting usually is configured to use an htaccess file that many programs use to control the server, for example "friendly URLS" . On Windows you need to make sure a module is installed to give this same functionality. In my opinion for shared hosting Linux is the way to go.
