If, and how, to Import old database to new install?

Recommended Posts

Can someone please detail if (and how) I can Import old backed up database to new install?

After the nightmare I have had since naively running the updater and destroying the shop, I am no longer clear which version of PS the db is aligned with, but importing it to a new fresh install of 1.2.4 seems to mess everything up so can anyone tell me what are the options for recovering this mess? If any?

I have a back up of the old db and of the images folder.

I know how to back up and restore a db and how to add / delete one and but thats about the extent of my mySQL knowledge. But I am a quick learner, point me in the right direction?

Any help would be very very much appreciated.

Otherwise its back to a full reinstall and re populating the shop form the ground up.

Thanks

S

Follow de steps described in this link Install and update prestashop where it says update prestashop.

When you update any version and you use in the instalation the same database or upgrade the database created in installation with the backup from the previous database, you have allways have to copy the settings.inc.php file from the folder /config to the new build’s /config folder because it contains the cookies keys that are saved in the database used in the older version off prestashop. Without this you cannot be able to go to your back office.

Remember allways to make a backup from database and from all your site before make any type off changes.

The link to "Update PrestaShop" is great ... however, it does not say anything about when you should import (or restore a backup) of your store's database.

I had a massive failure and had to clear my files and start from a clean install. I am planning to run through the steps listed to update PrestaShop, but I don't know if I just wait until after running the install process that I should restore the database or if it won't work that way.

I need some direction.

Thanks

If you do before you don´t need to run install, but is better you install first and test, then you restore your old database.

Did you read carefull what i said before in my other post???

Don´t forget to do what i said there.

Yes, I had uploaded the config file to my host server, and I had most of the bugs worked out, so I restored my database ... now I cannot login to the Back Office admin area. I think I may have used a different e-mail from the original install to this install -- is there a place to check this or change it ... or ... will I have to start over again?

Thanks for your time.

you have to ready with attention my first post in this topic... there you can see the file you have to copy from the old installation.

the file is here: /public_html/prestashop/config/settings.inc.php

copy this file from the old installation to the new one and you will be able to login in back office.

Or instead open the old file settings.inc.php an find the following 2 lines and copy them to the same file in the new installation.

define('_COOKIE_KEY_', 'here you will see letters and numbers in a long string');
define('_COOKIE_IV_', 'here you will see letters and numbers in a short string');

I think I must not have been clear earlier.

I had already uploaded the setup.inc.php file, but it didn't help.

I replaced the two lines of code you provided, but I still couldn't login; however, I was able to have it send me a replacement password .... (drum roll) ... and it worked!

So I can login now.

The only thing I've found at this point is that none of the product images are displaying. The images seem to be 'reserved', but it cannot find the images to display them. Are the images saved in the /img folder ... or as a part of the database? I'm not sure where to check to see if I can still retrieve them (but I guess I can go through and delete the image that isn't quite there and add the correct image again).

Thanks for your help!

(Let me know if it would be proper to put this question into a new thread, and I'll start a new one.)

Copy the the folder public_html/prestashop/img from old installation to the new one and than go to back office to the tab Preferences/image and click in regenerate images at the bottom of th page.

If you have any more question regarding this you must make a search in the forum and you will find the solution or start a new topic.

I uploaded the entire /img folder; then I told it to regenerate the thumbnails.

It reverted the category images back to the ones from the 'sample data' store, and no other images appeared.

Thanks anyway. I'll just re-do them all again.
