Much more than 20-50 at a time can cause real problems. Of course that will depend on how your site is hosted (Own server where you have full control it my be possible - otherwise.....) There are a couple of other possibilities 1) do it all on a local copy then ftp the files 2) I use Store Manager which does cost to buy the system, but does work for 1400 products - you would need to ask them about 16000 though:http://emagicone.com/products/solutions-for-prestashop/

Guest
Have you looked at the prestashop help? On the CSV import page there is a help button. There are also sample import files Most importantly, only try and import 1 item. Once you manage to get that working, try with 10 products, then iron out any more niggles before going further
